• Who is Big Blank Canvas?
Can I see an example of the canvas before I
buy?
Because Big Blank Canvas trades only as an online website, we have
no gallery or showroom in which we display our canvases. However, in
accordance to the Consumer Protection (Distance Selling) Regulations
2000, we operate a refund policy (subject to exclusions) should you
not be happy with your canvas. See 'What is your returns policy?' below.
Can you print my photos and/or artwork?
Yes we can. Please click on the 'Your Image' link in the top navigation
bar for more information.
Does it matter if my photo is not in a digital
format?
If it isn't, you'll need to get it scanned. See 'How should I scan
my photo' below.
Please note that we cannot accept
• any conventional photographs – please scan using the scanning
guide and send in a digital format
• a picture taken using the camera on your mobile phone or
• a picture taken by a camera less than 4 Mega Pixel.
How should I scan my photo?
If you set your scanner to the default settings, it should be correctly
set-up to scan your photo sufficiently well. But to be sure, here's
a few simple checks you can make:
1 Make sure your
photo and scanner are clean - If there
is any dirt, dust, fingerprints or smudges on either the photo or the
scanner's glass, these will appear on your file and subsequently on
your canvas. Check your scanner's user manual for it's recommended
cleaning method. Your photograph should be gently wiped with a clean,
lint-free cloth so remove any dirt etc. without damaging the print.
2 Preview before you scan - Your photo needs to be
flat on the scanner's glass. So if you photo has been creased, bent
or folded, you should place it under a large book(s) or other heavy
flat object to reduce the effects of any crease or fold as much as
possible. When the photo is on the scanner, again a heavy flat object
can be used to ensure it remains as flat as possible. Your scanner
will do a quick low resolution or preview scan first. Check this to
make sure you have scanned all of the photo and that the image is correctly
positioned - not at an angle. This is also another opportunity to ensure
the photo is clean.
3 Resolution - Think about the size of your original and the size you
want your canvas. As you're probably looking to enlarge your photo
you'll need to either increase the destination size of the scan and/or
the dpi (dots per inch), to ensure as much detail as possible is available
for the final canvas print. Files require a dpi of at least 300. Therefore,
if you want to print a 4x6" photo on a 16x22" canvas, the final image
will be approximately 4 times bigger. So, scan your image at 1200dpi
and possibly increase the destination size to 8x12".
4 Final Scan - Set your scanner to colour, even if
your photo isn't and regardless of the colour you wish your canvas
to be, i.e. black & white or sepia. When you've scanned your photo
and you're happy with the result, save it as aJPG / JPEG file. This
can then be emailed to us at myimage@bigblankcanvas.com (if you want
to include your photo in one of our Instant Art canvases, please email
it to instantart@bigblankcanvas.com).
Can you remove things like redeye, datestamps
and imperfections?
In most cases, yes. When you email us your photograph, please let us
know what it is you'd like us to correct. Usually, we'll be able to
make any amendments free of charge. Sometimes though, depending on
what you require, we may need to make a charge. If this is the case,
we'll always let you know first and won't do anything until you let
us know you're happy.
How do I look after my canvas?
Do not expose your canvas to continuous, strong sunlight or moisture.
Never clean with a wet or damp cloth - a light vacuum with a brush
attachment to remove any dust is the best way to keep your canvas
looking great.
What sizes are available?
When you're looking through our galleries, you'll see each canvas comes
in a selection of standard sizes - this is the same if you're looking
to have your photo or artwork printed to canvas. However, we can
also offer a very comprehensive selection of custom sizes from 12-72".
There are a selection of these customer sizes on our 'Prices' page.
If the size you want isn't there, just email us at mycanvas@bigblankcanvas.com
and well let you know how much it will be.
How do the images on your website compare to
the final printed canvas?
Due to variations in individual monitor settings, we can't guarantee
that your final canvas will be exactly the same as the images shown
of it on our website. If we are producing a 'My Canvas' version of
one of our canvases in your chosen colour scheme, you can either email
us with a Pantone Colour Reference or post us a colour swatch - this
could be a piece of fabric, wallpaper or paint colour swatch etc. We
will do our very best to match as closely as possible to your chosen
colours.
Will my canvas be the same as the image I see online?
Your canvas will vary according to the size and orientation (portrait,
landscape or square) you have
chosen. If you require a size or orientation that differs greatly
from the standard for a particular canvas design, we will always
email you an example of how it will look for you to approve before
we get it printed for you.
How does the shopping cart work?
Your shopping cart allows you to choose canvas designs, sizes etc and
keep them together while you continue to look around our website.
You can always see how many items you have in your shopping cart
and their value in the top right hand corner of the screen. If you'd
like to see what's in your shopping cart, just click on a 'View cart'
button and you'll go straight there. You can alter quantities by
amending the figure in the appropriate box then clicking the 'Recalculate'
button to update your total - there's also a 'Remove' link to delete
an item.
When you're happy you've got what you want in your cart and you've
selected the correct shipping option, just click the 'Checkout' button.
At this point you'll be asked for your personal details for payment
and delivery. Our shopping cart uses cookies.
